Planned water maintenance to affect part of Roodepoort’s water supply
According to JW's area list, residents in extension areas associated with these suburbs may also be affected, and everyone is advised to store water.
Residents in parts of Roodepoort are being urged to prepare for possible water supply interruptions ahead of Rand Water’s second and final phase of planned maintenance tomorrow, July 17, with Johannesburg Water (JW) warning that some areas could continue experiencing water-related challenges for several days after the work is completed.
The 12-hour maintenance, scheduled from 07:00 to 19:00, will see pumping from Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station to JW’s Roodepoort system reduced to 50%. As a result, customers supplied by the Randburg/ Roodepoort system may experience low water pressure or no water during the maintenance period.
JW said in a media statement that the work forms part of Rand Water’s annual winter maintenance programme aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency and flexibility of the bulk water supply network while water demand is generally lower.
Although the maintenance is scheduled for just one day, JW has cautioned that the recovery of affected systems is gradual and could take several days as reservoirs and water towers refill and water pressure stabilises across the network.
Weltevreden Park, Allen’s Nek, Panorama Agricultural Holdings, Little Falls, Strubens Valley, Radiokop Agricultural Holdings, Poortview, Ruimsig, Wilgeheuwel, Honey Hill and surrounding extensions are some of the areas in the northern parts that are expected to be affected.
Other Roodepoort suburbs expected to be affected include Florida, Florida Lake, Discovery, Roodekrans, Horison, Horizon View, Georginia, Hamberg, Delarey, Carenvale, Manufacta, Fleurhof, Davidsonville and Roodepoort West.
JW has advised residents to store enough water for essential household use before the maintenance begins and to avoid filling containers at the last minute, as this places additional strain on the network. The utility has also encouraged residents to use water sparingly during and after the maintenance to help the system recover more quickly.
According to JW, alternative water supply will be provided where necessary, with water tankers deployed to strategic locations in affected communities. JW said details of tanker locations will be communicated through its official channels and ward councillors.
The July 17 maintenance follows the successful completion of the first phase of Rand Water’s planned maintenance between the end of May and the beginning of June. JW said it will continue to provide updates throughout the maintenance period and reminded residents that water supply may not return immediately once the work has been completed.
