Zandspruit joins Plastic Free July drive
A clean-up in Zandspruit highlights the importance of reducing single-use plastics and protecting the environment.
Residents and volunteers joined Soulbent Project for a community clean-up on Wednesday, July 22, as part of the global Plastic Free July campaign, removing litter while promoting sustainable living.
The organisation’s volunteers gathered to remove plastic waste and other litter, highlighting the importance of collective action in creating cleaner, healthier neighbourhoods.
According to Soulbent Project CEO Mashudu Makhado, the initiative formed part of the organisation’s broader commitment to restoring the environment, protecting biodiversity and encouraging communities to take greater responsibility for the spaces in which they live.
“Every bag of waste collected represents more than cleaner streets and open spaces. It symbolises hope, responsibility and collective action,” said Mashudu.
Plastic Free July is a global movement that encourages individuals, businesses and communities to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and adopt more sustainable practices.
Mashudu said Soulbent’s environmental work extends beyond litter collection, with the organisation also seeking to educate communities, promote environmental stewardship and encourage residents to become actively involved in protecting their surroundings.
He expressed appreciation to the organisation’s volunteers, partners, sponsors and community members for their continued support of its environmental initiatives.
As Plastic Free July continues, Soulbent Project encourages members of the public to make environmentally responsible choices by reducing their use of single-use plastics, recycling responsibly and taking part in community clean-up initiatives.
“Collective efforts could help restore the environment, protect natural resources and contribute towards building resilient and sustainable communities for future generations,” he concluded.
