Crawfordians demonstrate their rights!
This was a celebration of their three-year learning journey as they prepare to leave the program and begin college (high school) in 2023.
Crawford Ruimsig’s Grade 7 learners presented their own unit of inquiry on Thursday, October 20 – but with a twist!

The learners independently completed and displayed their entire inquiry process in the form of the Primary Years Programme Exhibition (PYPX) as they progressed through the unit, Who We Are. This was a celebration of their three-year learning journey as they prepare to leave the program and begin college (high school) in 2023.
At Crawford Ruimsig, a typical unit of inquiry would see the facilitators guiding the learners through the inquiry process, from making connections to drawing conclusions. This time, the Grade 7 learners demonstrated to their VIP guests how meaningfully they can engage with a selected right from the South African Bill of Rights.

They used their available learning community (assigned mentor teachers, facilitators, and field experts) to deliver presentations of exceptional quality, displaying their research and planning as well as the action they would take if their chosen right was violated. Some examples of this action include the creation of an app to raise awareness about children’s rights violations, the elimination of pollution, the collection of school supplies for underprivileged learners, and the production of a puppet show to promote religious diversity in our community.

It has been wonderful to witness the authentic learning that has been occurring within the Preparatory School since the genesis of the PYP implementation in the school. Learners are able to speak assertively about their inquiry topics and answer any questions posed with confidence, demonstrating deep understanding.
