A generous donation makes life easier for Dorah’s Ark
The home has started operating their car wash however they need assistance with the equipment and finishing off the car wash.
On Saturday, October 22 Keke Moeca who finished her Mrs Universe Africa competition and won the Mrs Personality Award, dropped off a washing machine for the children of Dorah’s Ark Children’s Home & Place of Safety along with some old clothing.
Keke said she would like to use the Mrs Personality Award to reach as many people as possible and work with the community of the West Rand to help the orphanage with what they require on an ongoing basis.
Together with her two daughters Kwadiwa, 5 and Kgabo, 4 they packed up some of their family’s toys, clothes, board games and shoes to donate to the centre.
After Dorah’s Ark Project Manager and House Mother, Thembi Radebe had expressed that they wash the children’s laundry and uniforms with their hands, Keke felt that the washing machine would make life much easier for them.
“We had a washing machine and microwave that we aren’t using and felt that they could put it to good use. I felt it was important to do the drop off with my kids so I can teach them to share what they have and give back from an early age. A lot of us have more than what we actually need in our homes, and most of those things could benefit others or improve someone’s life out there. The kids were very happy to receive some clothing and cuddly toys, they shared their appreciation for our support,” said Keke.
She was however saddened to see that the boys don’t really get enough with these kinds of drop offs as the teenage boys are in need of some shoes and clothes.
Unfortunately, what her husband had donated could only cater for a few, her plea to the community is to make the spirit of sharing a constant habit.
Dorah’s Ark have given a very comprehensive list of the things they require to make life a little more comfortable for the children.
Among those are cleaning material and gardening tools, medicine, toiletries and household goods to name but a few.
“These days people are struggling to give, not because they don’t want to but mainly because the times are hard. Thank you for remembering us even during these times, washing has always been our main problem because of the number of children we look after. We promise to take care of the gift and make sure it assists us the way it should, thank you so much Keke, may God bless you over and over,” said Thembi.
Keke sat down and discussed important issues with Thembi in order to understand their day to day needs and how best to support them.
“My next initiative is to assist one of the girls with her Matric Farewell preparations, I also had a chat with one of the volunteers Lerato Radebe, who has started a car wash next to the home to raise funds for everyday needs. There are also outside beneficiaries such as the ill, old people, child-headed homes and vulnerable children. There are school children who walk in to ask for food on the daily basis, the number of people they feed is just over 500, depending on the time of the year and the availability of food,” explained Keke.

The Mrs Universe Africa Organisation took the `beauty pageants to orphanage to donate care packages for the girls and over the past few months some of the pageants have continued to work with the centre doing different things.
When they had their Charity High Tea where they had to host a table each, Keke decided that two of the seats will be for the orphans.
Keke said that she took two teen girls with her in order for them to be able to know that they belong.
“The gesture was really to try and expose them to what life has to offer, seeing different women doing great things in life and getting inspired and really having fun. We know that ordinary children in their position wouldn’t be exposed to this type of event so it was important for me to let them know that we want them to succeed in life and are willing to hold their hand. They received an opportunity to pick dresses and shoes from my wardrobe to attend the event and also keep the items,” said Keke.On Saturday, October 22 Keke Moeca who finished her Mrs Universe Africa competition and won the Mrs Personality Award, dropped off a washing machine for the children of Dorah’s Ark Children’s Home & Place of Safety along with some old clothing.
