HONEYDEW: Power outages leave residents feeling powerless
Previous outages in October were chalked up to a fault in a 6m cable, and officials assured residents that they were hard at work investigating and repairing the fault.
Residents of Honeydew and the surrounding areas have been left in the dark – literally. Some would even argue that they might have also been left in the dark in the metaphorical sense as many are left clueless as to why they have been struggling with ongoing power outages for these last few months of the year.
Previous outages in October were chalked up to a fault in a 6m cable, and officials assured residents that they were hard at work investigating and repairing the fault.
According to Ward Councillor Jacques Hoon, the fault in the cable was located and repaired within 24 hours.
Now, residents are powerless, once again. The question on everyone’s mind is a frustrated ‘why?’.
According to City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena, the City Power Roodepoort Service Delivery Centre has, in recent days and weeks, been under extreme pressure due to multiple outages in different areas.
“Besides the high impact of load-shedding that we are experiencing, Roodepoort is the worst affected by theft and vandalism,” Mangena elaborated, adding that the impact of the rain on repairs and restorations in the past week also made matters worse.
“One of the highly affected areas is the Honeydew area and the surrounds. While many of these problems have been resolved, we are attending to a medium voltage outage in Ruimsig, Tres Jolie, Honeydew, Wilgespruit this morning [November 23],” Mangena added.
There have also been incidents of vandalism this morning, November 23. According to City Power, their teams are doing everything in their power to ensure repairs are completed, backlogs in the area dealt with, and power is restore to the customers.
