Man who shot at security guard collapses in court

Shortly after climbing the dock the accused collapsed before he claimed that he was suffering from a heart condition.

A fifty-four-year-old man made his first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court to face charges that include that of attempted murder.

The accused was arrested for allegedly opening fire at a Beagle Watch Security guard that was responding to an activated panic button on Monday, November 28.

Shortly after climbing the dock the accused collapsed before he claimed that he was suffering from a heart condition.

The accused who was down on the floor for a short while was then assessed by medical personnel and transferred from court room K to court room J were the matter was set for bail application on December 9.

It is alleged that the accused arrived at the residential place of his ex-lover and demanded to see her, the ex-lover who locked herself inside the house, pressed the panic button and the security guard responded swiftly.

It is reported that upon seeing the security guard arrive, the accused fired several shots at the vehicle and went inside the yard and tried to gain entry into the house by shooting the security door.

Police officers from Highway Patrol Unit arrived at the scene and disarmed the accused who was then arrested.

The suspect was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, preliminary investigation revealed that both firearms belong to the suspect but the licences had expired.
