Operation O Kae Molao yields milestone successes

Operation O Kae Molao continued in Roodepoort and Lenasia on May 25.

As part of Operation O Kae Molao the police, along with the Gauteng Traffic Department and numerous other agencies came together to fight crime within the district.

The day started at Roodepoort City Hall where the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, was joined by the Provincial Commissioner of Free State Province, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane to discuss the state of crime within the district.

They first had a roadblock situated on Adcock Street in Lenasia for a stop-and-search operation. Three vehicles that had been reported stolen were found. One of the stolen vehicles that were recovered was caught on the camera and listed as ‘positive’.

The female driver, as well as her husband, was unaware the car had been stolen, Mawela stated they are giving them the benefit of the doubt. Further, 71 undocumented persons were found and arrested. After the roadblock, they continued to other areas to fight against crime.

“We went to Sol Plaatjie Informal Settlement in Durban Deep where we arrested 35 undocumented foreign nationals who are suspected to be illegal miners,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, Senior Communications Officer at the police.

Mawela concluded by saying they are truly happy with what they have achieved through this operation; they have accomplished the milestones they have set for themselves and thus far 1 022 suspects have been arrested.
