Landhuis Street receives long-awaited resurfacing

600 tonnes of asphalt was used to resurface one kilometre stretch of road.

Years of dodging massive craters on Landhuis Street have finally come to an end

From outside the staff parking area of the nearby high school right up to Rinyani Avenue, the notoriously bumpy street has a thick new layer of tar. In early June the road even caught the attention of a 24-hour news channel that broadcasted a lengthy insert from the street. A private pothole repair team was on-site and by June 17, crews were hard at work resurfacing the road.

Landhuis Street resident Nigel Mitchell quizzed the repair team who revealed to him that a total of 600 tonnes of asphalt were used to repair the one-kilometre stretch of road.

“We counted 79 potholes in just 80 metres of road. The very next day Pot Hole Patrol vehicles and personnel were on site fixing the problem and stayed for the rest of the week. As residents we were pleased, to say the least,” stated Nigel.

The resurfacing took just one day and a week later Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) completed the task by giving the strip fresh road markings on June 24. Happy not to have to negotiate what he described as ‘a nightmare stretch of road’ Nigel concluded, “Thanks to councillor David Brand who has been on this subject to JRA for a long time.”
