Arthur comes to life to support the children of local primary school

Whenever the children of Arthur Matthews Primary need someone to comfort them in times of difficulty, Arthur will be there.

Arthur Matthews Primary has a new mascot!

To bring comfort to the children, the school came up with the idea of Arthur, the friendly bear.

Susanne Strydom from the school explained they didn’t know about Arthur Matthews, who the school was named after, so she did some digging and came across the idea of Arthur the Bear.

She continued they will use Arthur for marketing and counselling purposes for the children, as he is a form of comfort for them. She added the children relate to him. When they then also go to represent the school, Arthur will go with them. Arthur will also act as a teacher and reminder for the children how to conduct themselves.

Teacher Mandisa Mbembe noted: “The children love him! It is therapeutic for the children, especially those going through something in their lives.”

Susanne concluded Arthur will be making an appearance in public soon – on the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Madelein Street and when the passersby see him, they should hoot for him, and if they want they can stop and take pamphlets about the school from him.
