Florida police extends a helping hand
Residents in need receive a welcome hot meal on Mandela Day.
Officers from the Florida Police Station took hands with local business owners and pastors associated with the Divine Intervention Approach to bring some much-needed hope and sustenance to the less fortunate residents of the area.
Police officers, pastors, and local businesspeople collaborated on Mandela Day to collect and donate food to residents in need.
“We are extremely thankful to our local businesspeople who donated generously to this project, and our trusty pastors, who were on hand to bless the proceedings, hand out food, and offer words of encouragement to residents,” said Florida Police Station Commander, Colonel Amos Tsotsetsi.
Together, the police, pastors and businesspeople handed out delicious beef curry stew and bread to residents at two locations where poverty is rife.
At the corner of Eufees Avenue and Westlake Road, where unemployed people gather in growing numbers daily in the hopes of being picked up for a day labour job, long lines formed for the very welcome hot meal.
Shortly thereafter, the convoy moved to the corners of Plaza Road and Second Avenue in the Florida CBD, where the situation is even more dire.
Colonel Tsotsetsi addressed the gathered crowd, ensuring them that the police, local businesses, and the gathered pastors were committed to bringing about positive change in the community.
He encouraged residents to freely approach the police with their concerns and requirements so that these can be effectively addressed.
In typical animated Tsotsetsi fashion, he warned residents about the dangers of public drinking and other illegal activities, before wishing everyone a delicious and blessed meal.
