CPF confronts crime head-on

Sector 3 of the Honeydew CPF does not hesitate to react when crime rates soar.

Honeydew CPF Sector 3 members supported by local security companies and Honeydew Police held a crime awareness campaign at the Paul Kruger and Taylor Road intersection on August 13.

According to chairperson Anthony Beer, the campaign was aimed at creating awareness after numerous incidents of crime were reported in the vicinity recently.

“We’ve been seeing an increase in street robberies in the area lately,” he says, adding that domestic workers, school children and joggers are being targeted around the intersection.

“In response, we’ve decided to deploy our members at the intersection to hand out flyers and speak to locals about crime in their area.

“We were joined by various local security companies and members of the Honeydew Police, who all took to the initiative with gusto.”

Police carried out searches of informal traders at the intersection of Paul Kruger and Taylor Road after a recent increase in crime incidents in the area.

Police members took the opportunity to conduct searches of informal traders at various spots around the intersection, some of which are known to sell alcohol.

“Increasing visibility in hotspot areas is one way we deter crime, and making our residents aware of the situation inspires them to be more vigilant in their comings and goings,” says Beer.

CPF members also confronted the workers who delivered an unlicensed advertising trailer to the intersection while the campaign was in full swing.
