Bazaar for a good cause
The NG church in Witpoortjie hosted a market aimed at fundraising and subsidising the church's outreach programme.
The Witpoortjie Dutch Reformed Church (NG Kerk) hosted a church bazaar fundraiser for the church’s needs and outreach programmes.
According to Reverend Rudolph Botha, this annual event provides a platform for community members to showcase their businesses and offer affordable goods.
“We have about eight external stalls, and all the proceeds go to our outreach programmes. Given the high number of homeless people in Witpoortjie, we feed about 23 households weekly,” he explained.
Rudolph emphasised that this initiative is close to their hearts, and they intentionally designed it to uplift the community of Witpoortjie.
“One of our stalls here is a second-hand clothing shop that is selling at prices like R5 and R10 for decent clothing, and we know that someone less privileged can afford that amount. We sometimes give clothes for free to those who need it,” Rudolph added.
Members of the congregation also supported the church and came out to indulge in the pancakes, coffee, boerwors rolls and slushies just to name a few that were on sale.
The church also had a play area for the young ones and a reading area for the bookworms.
