1974 Parkies hold 50th reunion

Florida Park High School's class of 1974 raised the roof of the Bryanston Country Club during their 50th reunion.

Florida Park High School’s class of ’74 held their 50th reunion in September and raised the roof of the Bryanston Country Club.

According to former Parkie and one of the organising members, Debbie Moore, the event was a swanky affair that saw other former Parkies – and even some teachers – attend from far and wide. Some even flew in from abroad.

Linda Crawford, Maryann O’Reilly, Cherrith Henri and Susan Iverson.

The reunion, although significant, was about much more than fun and games though.

“We wanted to give back to the Florida community, so we decided to hold a fundraiser for a worthy cause,” says Debbie.

“In true Parkie style, this initiative was fantastically supported and we managed to raise R7 500 for the St Lawrence’s Children’s Haven, which was handed over early in October.”

The event also featured an honour list and a corner of remembrance for those from their class who have passed away.

“There was quite a run-up to the actual event,” adds Debbie. “We were all so excited that we tackled the planning with all hands on deck. Our head boy, Glenn Cuthbertson, was sadly not able to attend, but we managed to meet up with him two weeks before the event.

“It was lovely to visit and spend time with old friends, some of whom we’ve not seen since school days. We’re especially proud when we see how former Parkies went on to make successes of their lives.

“As former Parkies, we are so proud to continue to make a real difference in our community. No matter where we find ourselves, we will always be Parkies!”
