RWRA hosts AGM with important community updates

The RWRA is committed to tackling key issues and strengthening neighborhood support.

The RiverWel Residents Association (RWRA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 16 at the Weltevreden Park Primary School. It was well attended by the community.

Chairperson Wayne Davies welcomed everyone and the meeting featured several key speakers who addressed pressing issues, including local governance, crime and community resources.

Ward 126 councillor David Brand addressed residents, answering questions on various local matters. The current water issue which has been affecting a lot of areas was also discussed. Brand acknowledged concerns and responded to questions about the efforts underway to improve water access and management.

Jon Rosenberg, chairperson of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), gave an overview of crime in the Honeydew precinct and explained the Honeydew Patroller Programme.

Greg Pearce, the owner of Community Support Services, presented crime statistics for the RWRA area, noting a decrease in incidents compared to previous years. He mentioned that most reported crimes were petty and emanated from the Greenbelt, highlighting an ongoing need for vigilance in those areas.

Julia Fish, representing JoburgCAN/ WaterCAN, shared efforts by their organisations to support residents and resident associations in achieving their goals with the council. Her briefing included information on initiatives to improve residents’ collaboration with local governance on water-related issues.

The meeting concluded with the election of the new RWRA Committee. Carole Henning was elected as chairperson, with Neville Burnett taking on the role of Admin. Newton and Simone Kemp, as well as Wayne Tippet joined as new committee members, while Sean Connell, David Wright, Kevin Thomson, Trevor Richardson, and Peter Redfearn continued in their positions on the committee.

The RWRA AGM provided valuable updates and insights, demonstrating the association’s dedication to addressing resident concerns and enhancing community well-being.
