Aunty J retires from C4C

Multi Charirties West Rand came together to celebrate a selfless hero who has worked for a decade with Champions for Change making a difference in community.

After more than a decade of charity work, Jeanette Visagie is retiring from Champions for Change (C4C), leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion and dedication.

Aunty J, as she is affectionately known, is 78 years old and recognised throughout the greater community of Roodepoort for being a beacon of hope and ministering to those in need. She has a background in nursing and is currently a counsellor at a local fire station. She also prays for people who have lost their loved ones.

C4C is a non-profit organisation that focuses on child protection and safeguarding awareness, as well as various community work that includes arts and crafts therapy sessions for survivors of abuse, applications for protection orders, and the collection of previously loved items for the community.

According to a statement sent to the Roodepoort Record by Myrna Thomas, one of the founders of C4C, Aunty J would join the C4C team every morning at 9:00, serving as their volunteer chaplain. With a listening ear and a caring heart, she would provide counselling to victims of trauma and abuse, empowering them to transform their pain into resilience.

“All these years, she has done these services at no cost,” reads the statement.

Aunty J’s years of dedication were celebrated on October 15 at Lockies Lane when Multi Charities came together to celebrate her work and that of Averille Botha.

Averille is the founder of Multi Charities and received a prestigious nomination for excellence in community service.

“I leave C4C founders Gwen Pretorius and Myrna with the word of God. They must love, have faith, and support each other,” said Aunty J.

She says she will continue doing more community work voluntarily.
