Wilro Lions presents another Xmas parade

The Lions Club of Wilro Park celebrates Christmas with a special tribute to their past president and community work.

Residents of Wilro Park and adjacent areas can look forward to another Christmas Parade (this year for two days) hosted by the Wilro Park Lions Club.

The first parade will take place on December 7 at 16:00. It will start at Ridgeview Shopping Centre, then go to the Wilro Park Lions Club, then proceed through the neighbourhood to visit all the beautifully decorated houses. They will be visiting homes along Hardekool, Debonair, Belladonna and Banket streets, among others.

Another parade will follow the next weekend, and this will be a day full of festivities at the Ridgeview Shopping Centre, starting at 09:00.

According to Sandy van Heerden, media liaison of the Wilro Park Lions, the Christmas parade was founded by a community member Warnich Grimsell, who sought to bring people together during the festive season.

“This event aims to spread joy, combat loneliness, and share the spirit of Christmas,” she says. This event is also to commemorate the club’s past president, Molly Francis, who passed away on Christmas Day in 2010.

“The Christmas lights represent her unselfish service to the community through all her years of service from 1986 to 2010. It represents love and light and the remembrance of our loved ones not with us during this time.”

“Residents can expect a good day of community spirit and sharing. If you would like to help by making a donation or bringing a gift, you are more than welcome.”
