Fundraiser to honour Tristan’s legacy

Walkhaven Dog Park played host to a fundraiser in honour of a local family's tragic loss.

On what should have been Tristan Chase Randall’s 21st birthday, friends, family, and animal lovers came together to celebrate his life and legacy at the Walkhaven Dog Park on November 3.

Tragedy struck on September 6 when Tristan, an ambassador of The Dogs Trust, was taken from his family in a devastating head-on car crash on Cedar Road in Fourways. The 20-year-old’s passing left an unfillable void in the lives of his loved ones.

In honour of his life, a fundraising event was held to serve as a poignant reminder of Tristan’s compassion and helping those in need – especially rescue dogs.

According to Michelle Kleer, a close friend of Tristan’s mother, Kirsten Randall, the aim of this event is to continue Tristan’s mission of supporting vulnerable animals by collaborating with the foundation to raise awareness and vital funds for rescue dogs.

“Tristan’s kind heart and love for animals inspired those around him. He was pursuing a degree in psychology. Driven by the desire to help others overcome their struggles.

“We had such a brilliant turnout from family, friends and residents who drove all the way to support this amazing initiative. Residents could have their dogs vaccinated, microchipped, groomed, and bathed, or help themselves with dog-friendly treats provided by The Dogs Trust. Dog lovers could even adopt puppies available to provide them with a loving new home,” Michelle said.

Tristan’s family, Kirsten, Wayne and Jordan Randall, gathered near the lake to honour him with a few words and a lovely cake. Everyone experienced an emotional moment, tears streaming down their faces as they struggled to cope with their loss.

“People’s presence and support were highly appreciated by those who loved Tristan dearly. We hope to continue his legacy of helping those in need and rescuing animals,” Michelle adds.
