Farewell to an exceptional leader

He was a familiar face at CPF, resident’s association and block watch meetings, community clean-ups, Saturday parkruns, school assemblies, youth days, and church services, to name a few.

Florida Police Station is set to change leadership after the promotion of its beloved station commander Colonel Amos Tsotsetsi to the rank of Brigadier and his subsequent deployment at Jabulani Police Station in Soweto.

Tsotsetsi is widely respected not only in police circles, but also within the local community for his pro-active stance on crime prevention, and his willingness to include community structures in keeping their neighbourhoods safe.

Throughout his tenure as station commander at Florida, Tsotsetsi has worked closely with various community structures and organisations, actively engaging in everything from public meetings to school talks, crime prevention operations, and much more.

He was a familiar face at CPF, resident’s association and block watch meetings, community clean-ups, Saturday parkruns, school assemblies, youth days, and church services, to name a few.

“It has been my pleasure to serve in the Florida policing precinct,” says Tsotsetsi. “The community of Florida is very special to me and I appreciate their willingness to work with and actively engage with the police to address crime in their area.

“During my time at Florida, I have built close relationships with community organisations, charities, schools and churches, and I hope that they will work as closely with my successor so that the strong foundations we have built together continue to grow.”

According to Ward 70 Councillor Caleb Finn, Tsotsetsi was an exceptional station commander who went above and beyond the call of duty at all times.

“The Colonel’s commitment to the greater Florida community was visible in everything he did, from the countless operations to his 24/7 availability. His presence in the community will be sorely missed.

“I hope that his legacy will live on at Florida police and that the station will continue to deliver exceptional results in the fight against crime.”
