Rising stars light up the runway in style
Their talent turned heads and redefined fashion's future.
Young Crawford International Ruimsig learners Phepa and Phatsimo Msomi lit up the runway at this year’s Soweto Fashion Week, proudly representing the next generation of South African talent.
The siblings, who are in Grade Five and Grade Six respectively, had the opportunity to model for the 16-year-old Enhle Babes’ fashion line, Enhle Babes Couture.
Enhle, a prodigy in her own right, became the youngest designer to debut at Fashion Week and has already showcased her work at high-profile events in Canada and New York since she was just 14. Known for her bold, vibrant designs inspired by African patterns, Enhle’s creations have captured the attention of international audiences. Her collection gave Phepa and Phatsimo a chance to shine, wearing designs that showcased both their confidence and the distinctive flair of Enhle’s style.

The 2024 Soweto Fashion Week Spring Collection celebrated bold colours, African-inspired patterns, and forward-thinking fashion, setting the trends for the upcoming season. Known for promoting local talent, Soweto Fashion Week is a key platform for South African designers to introduce their work to a wider audience. For young models like the Msomi siblings, it was an extraordinary experience to walk alongside South Africa’s leading designers and be part of a showcase that uplifts the local fashion industry.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our talented students, who recently lit up the runway. From the catwalk to the classroom, we’re thrilled to see our learners exploring their dreams and talents,” expressed Lindsay van Boven, the school’s media director.
She further added that the siblings are an inspiration to them and that having their students shine on such a big stage is incredible.
“They are not only representing our school but also demonstrating the power of youth to make an impact in the creative world,” she concluded.
