Join in the Christmas fun with RNW

Join the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch at their highly anticipated Christmas Market on December 7.

The Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch Christmas Market, set to be held at the Ridgegate Shopping Centre in Wilde Amandel Avenue, promises to be bigger and better than ever this year with loads of activities for the whole family.

According to RNW committee member Leon Marinus, the event, which features more than 80 market stalls, live music, a 2km and a 5km colour run, face painting, and various raffles and competitions, will kick off at noon on December 7.

“We are planning an awesome day full of surprises and heaps of fun,” says Marinus. “There will be beautiful Christmas lights, balloon art, carols by candlelight, and even a post box where kids can mail their letters to Santa.

“We’ve heard a rumour that Santa himself may even make an appearance this year.”

Like every year, proceeds from the market day will go toward a good cause.

Market organiser Charnè Liebenberg says that instead of donating to an existing charity, as is the norm, the organisers this year decided to direct their goodwill toward their own community.

“The Covid pandemic and the struggling economy had a devastating impact on many community members.

“We have asked schools and churches to help us identify families in need so that we can embrace them as a community and show them that, despite the hardships they are suffering, we stand in solidarity as neighbours and friends.

“Money generated from the market will be used to buy groceries and other essentials that are sure to make a huge difference for these families.

“Approaching the schools and churches in this way also enables us to identify the needs of individual families more accurately, which allows us to direct the funds to where it will do the most good.”
