The spirit of giving back

The annual Carols by Candlelight event brought together the community for a magical night of music and presents.

River Bushwillow Estate hosted their charity event, Carols by Candlelight, on Saturday evening, December 7.

Set against a beautiful backdrop with Christmas lights surrounding their serene garden, this wonderful gathering brought together residents and the lovely children of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home so that the children there can experience the love and support they deserve.

Despite the rain, residents worked together in moving all their equipment and the children inside the hall, where they made sure they continued the event for the children.

According to River Bushwillow resident and event organiser Bertin Jacobs, this year’s event was particularly special, marking a significant milestone in the journey of the Carols by Candlelight. Bertin further adds that the main aim of this wonderful charity event is to raise funds and give the children of Abraham Kriel an unforgettable Christmas experience.

“Christmas comes once a year, and we have dedicated this time to give back to the children and let them enjoy the festivities just like everyone else. We arranged with our fellow residents to each contribute to buying gifts for the children, as well as providing food and treats. We have our vendors who sold food and cakes, and all those funds will be donated to the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home,” Bertin said.

One of the most poignant moments of the evening came when the children from the estate in hand with their counterparts from Abraham Kriel took to the stage to form a little choir and sing their favourite carols. Their voices, pure and full of hope, resonated with the Christmas spirit, melting the hearts of every person who was present.

Additionally, the excitement rose when Santa made a special appearance to give the children their special gifts, leaving the biggest smile on their faces and a chance to tell Santa what they would love for Christmas.

“We would like to thank the generosity of our main sponsors; the evening was elevated to new heights with the state-of-the-art sound equipment that enhanced the musical experience and allowed the kids to happily sing along to the Christmas carols, as well as for providing delicious food for the children and guests to enjoy.

“This is only our third event and we would love to continue this amazing initiative for our children,” Bertin added.
