RNW hosts Christmas market
Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch spreads festive cheer with their 5th annual Christmas market.
The Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) hosted their fifth annual Christmas market that transformed their headquarters into a winter wonderland on Saturday, December 7.
The market featured a variety of stalls selling Christmas cakes and food, hand-crafted goods and home essentials.
The highlight of the market was a special visit from Santa Claus himself, who arrived from the North Pole to spread joy and cheer to children.
Children’s eyes widened with excitement as they sat on Santa’s lap, sharing their Christmas wish lists with the jolly old man. Parents and caregivers took advantage of the opportunity to capture special moments, snapping photos with Santa to treasure the memory.
According to RNW chairperson Andreas Oberlechner, the market is a community-driven event aimed at bringing the community together during the festive season.

“It’s a wonderful way to foster a sense of community and connection among our neighbours,” Andreas said.
The entrance fee for the market was a non-perishable food item, which will be used to support underprivileged families within the RNW jurisdiction.
RNW committee member Charnè Liebenberg said, “We wanted to use this opportunity to give back to our community. The non-perishable food items collected will be used to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our less fortunate neighbours.”
The market also featured an exciting braai hamper raffle, with all proceeds going towards purchasing Christmas gifts and food parcels for RNW’s less fortunate families.
Charné added, “We’re thrilled to be able to make a difference in our community, and we’re grateful for the support of our residents.”
As the market came to a close, the community gathered for a magical Carols by Candlelight event. The Moonlight Rhythm Society band played festive tunes, filling the air with joy and cheer. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful community event.
“Despite the challenging weather, Andreas, and his band, uplifted the community with their exceptional performance of carols, showcasing impressive singing and instrumental talent. The market successfully concluded at about 20:00, with the rain failing to dampen the spirit of the event,” Charné concluded.
