Scouts revel in community service
Two Frist Discovery Scouts are on a mission to earn their Springbok Award.
First Discovery Scouts Andrei Pretorius and Kwanda Obi are on a quest to earn their Springbok badges and are working hard at completing the required community service that will see them reach the highest qualification within the scouts.
As part of their ongoing efforts to effect positive change in the community, the pair volunteered during the past school exams at the local learning and aftercare centre, Ons Plek Horison, where they assisted learners with revision and preparation for their exams.
“Luckily it wasn’t all work,” adds Kwanda. “We also had the opportunity for some fun. Playing games and eating sweet treats.”
Andrei adds, “We were pleasantly surprised at the high level of exam preparation already done by the kids and Ons Plek staff. This made our job so much easier.”
The Springbok Award is only attainable by scouts over the age of 16 who have successfully completed all other levels and registered as a Springbok Candidate.
