CPF spreads Christmas cheer

This act of kindness has proven that by working together, everyone can create a season filled with joy, compassion, and the magic of giving.

The festive season started early this year as Honeydew CPF and the Honeydew police brought the true spirit of Christmas to life through their annual Toy Run and biscuit donation drive.

Kicking off on November 19, the drive reached a phenomenal milestone, with a total of 210 boxes of biscuits collected to spread joy among the elderly and children in the community.

The residents at Ann Harding were all excited to see Santa and could not wait to receive their Christmas cookies.

The donations ended in a heartwarming outreach on Saturday, December 7, as volunteers joined Santa to distribute biscuits, toys, and sweets at various community stops, touching countless lives.

The outreach began with visits to the Anne Harding Cheshire Home and the Village of Golden Harvest, where residents received boxes of biscuits. The joy and gratitude expressed by the elderly residents underscored the importance of such initiatives.

The team then headed to St Laurence’s Children’s Haven, where Santa delivered toys and sweets to delighted children. Their excitement was a heartwarming reminder of the magic that small acts of kindness can bring, especially during Christmas.

The final stop of the day was Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital, where volunteers handed out biscuits to every department. Santa made a special appearance at the children’s ward, spreading cheer among young patients and their families, offering a moment of happiness during a challenging time.

The biscuit donation drive, at its launch, initially set a goal of collecting 140 boxes. However, the generosity of the community far exceeded this target.

Local resident associations played a significant role in the success of the drive. The Honeydew Residents Association (HRA) donated 10 boxes of Bakers Choice Assorted biscuits (1kg), and their efforts inspired neighbours and businesses to contribute. A staggering 110 boxes were collected in just two hours during a focused drive, and an additional 100 boxes were donated by various resident associations and individuals in the days that followed.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed and helped us surpass our goal. Together, we made a real difference in the lives of so many,” Michael Steyn, the Honeydew CPF’s public relations officer, said.

“The initiative highlights the power of community unity and the impact of collective kindness. Through these efforts, Honeydew CPF and the police not only brightened the festive season but also inspired others to embrace the spirit of giving.”

As the festive season continues, Honeydew CPF encourages ongoing support for community outreach initiatives as donations and involvement remain crucial in ensuring that vulnerable members of the community feel cared for and appreciated.
