Festive season security tips from the CPF

Don't let the festive season distract you from safety.

During the recent Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting held on October 9, residents gathered to discuss strategies for staying safe during the busy shopping season.

The meeting, chaired by Anthony Beer, welcomed various security companies who shared their insights and expertise on maintaining security during the festive rush. With the increase in shopping activity and potential distractions, these tips serve as essential reminders for all residents.

The following tips were shared:

• Lock up before you go: Always lock all gates and activate your alarm systems, regardless of how long you plan to be away from home. This simple step can deter potential intruders.

• Test your alarm systems: Ensure that your alarm systems are functioning correctly by testing them regularly. Verify that the control rooms are receiving signals, and don’t forget to test panic buttons and sensors on doors and windows.

• Check electric fence alarms: Regularly check your electric fence alarms to ensure they are operational. A malfunctioning electric fence can provide a false sense of security.

• Communicate with your security company: If you plan to be away for an extended period, inform your security company. They can increase patrols in your area and provide added visibility, helping to keep your home safe.

• Report suspicious behaviour: Always report any suspicious activity to your security provider. Prompt reporting can prevent potential crimes and keep the community safe.

• Look out for your neighbours: Community vigilance is key. Let your neighbours know if you’ll be away and offer to keep an eye on their properties while they are gone. Building a supportive neighbourhood can enhance everyone’s security.
