A ‘tree’mendous festive season at Kwena

Kwena Square hosted a whimsical market featuring their Treemendous Challenge won by Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel.

Kwena Square is known for its diverse taste in social events, and last year during the December holidays, they brought the festive cheer with a twist.

A market was hosted to celebrate not only Christmas but also their Treemendous Recycle Challenge which featured different schools showcasing their best Christmas tree made purely from recycled materials.

Kwena Square’s marketing manager Shannon Wulff explains the importance of this marketing is to teach the younger generation the importance of recycling while also embracing the joys of Christmas through their creativity.

“The mission was to get as many local schools involved as much as possible to join this campaign and allow them to utilise recycled materials to make the best Christmas tree which was featured as you walk into Checkers.

“We had schools such as Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, Trinityhouse Little Falls, The Kings School West Rand, Nova Pioneer Ruimsig, Sky College and Mellow Oaks Academy involved. This is more than we expected which resulted in an even greater turnout when all the trees were showcased for our residents to vote for the best one.

Residents were blessed with blissful carols from The Salvation Army band having them joyfully dance their way in and out of Checkers while taking a picture with Santa next to the recycled trees.

Curro Wilgeheuwel took first place for their recycled Christmas tree, taking the crown in the challenge. With an impressive 327 votes, they’ve won a fantastic prize sponsored by Decathlon South Africa and Waltons South Africa.
