Christmas lights and song in Horison

The Olivier family of Horizon View held their annual Christmas light show, which, this year, included live carolling by the Horison Baptist Church band.

The Olivier family from Bradfield Street, Horizon View celebrated their fifth annual Christmas light show in style on December 16.

During the Covid pandemic, the family decided to spread Christmas cheer by adorning their house with a wide variety of Christmas lights they had collected over the years.

This initiative quickly became an annual institution with residents from far and wide travelling to see the lights, which are switched on at the beginning of December and accompanied by Christmas carols, played daily between 19:00 and 21:00 from December 16.

“This being our fifth year, we decided to do something special,” says Sharon, the mastermind behind the initiative.

“The traditional turning on of the music was this year celebrated with a live performance of the Horison Baptist Church band, and what we were hoping to be a visit from Santa himself.”

Sharon says that Santa ended up visiting much earlier, leaving a wide variety of sweet treats for the neighbourhood children who had come to take part in the carols by candlelight event.

“Unfortunately, though the kids missed Santa, the Grinch made an appearance, and much to the delight of everyone, tried to stage a dramatic theft of the sweets.

“Luckily, the brave kids managed to thwart his underhanded efforts, enjoying every minute thoroughly.”
