At just the age of 13, Tatum Prall is already making a name for herself as a talented and savvy businesswoman.
The talented youngster has turned her passion for crafting into a thriving business, creating handmade bracelets, anklets, necklaces, and phone straps from scratch and cementing herself in local markets, showcasing her creativity to eager individuals.
With a keen eye for detail and a love for all things sparkly, Tatum began making her own jewellery a year ago after she received beads as a Christmas present from her sister. Speaking to the Roodepoort Northsider, Tatum explains that during her free time after school, after completing her homework or coming back from extracurricular activities, she gives herself time to make as many bracelets as she can.
“After my sister gifted me the beads, I started watching videos on YouTube and perfected my skills. I can now make five to 10 bracelets in a matter of hours, and I love the fact that I can play around with the different colour beads to make them look pretty.
“I’m grateful that at my age I get to learn such valuable lessons, surrounded by a family which supports me. My sister handles my social media to promote Tatum Bracelets and my mother ensures we sell the bracelets to school learners. I have such a strong supportive system which drives me to want to achieve greater things,” Tatum said.
Tatum’s first market was a huge success, and her bracelets sold like hotcakes, which was the beginning of her business as a young entrepreneur. Her mother, Liana Prall, takes care of her bookings for local markets and expresses how actively involved she is in her daughter’s journey.
“We make sure that we always attend two markets in a month to not overwhelm her. We usually target local markets with the younger generation, as this is our target market. We had to teach her the importance of accepting that sometimes when people at a market tell her they will come back and they don’t come back, it’s okay.
“In just a year, Tatum has shown so much growth for a young girl. She currently has her own business account and learns the value of saving money for important things, as well as having fun with her friends,” Liana says.
The future looks bright for young Tatum as she embarks on her journey of financial freedom as she one day hopes to open her own franchise.
