Volunteer unit leads the charge against crime in Witpoortjie
Most common crime trends in the area is vehicle theft, gate motor and bin theft, drug and alcohol abuse, and domestic violence.

The Witpoortjie Emergencies Crime Prevention volunteer unit is making headway in combating and reporting crime in the area.
According to one of the volunteers of this non-profit organisation, Brandon Kincaid, they started four years ago, and the main aim was to keep the community united, safe, and free from any criminal activities.
“We collaborate with security companies, the police, and emergency services for any emergencies that are happening in the community. Whether it be catching suspects, accidents, or patrolling the area.“
A lot of people do not know what is going on in the community, especially in the morning hours, which is where the majority of the crime is happening.
“We have a WhatsApp emergency group with more than 900 community members where we share serious emergencies. I then call security companies, and if it is something major, I call the police,” he says.
Kincaid says one of the most common crime trends in the area is vehicle theft, gate motor and bin theft, drug and alcohol abuse, and a lot of domestic violence.
“We are the link between the community and officials. My wife [Dorothy Kincaid], who is the second volunteer, also helps with water and electricity issues and any other engagement with the ward councillor.”
