Empowering expectant mothers: Hospital hosts successful maternity workshop
As part of Pregnancy Awareness Week, Life Flora Hospital hosted a workshop with expert sessions on healthy pregnancy, nutrition, breastfeeding and emergency preparedness.

Life Flora Hospital hosted a Little Life Maternity Workshop on Friday, February 7, as part of Pregnancy Awareness Week. The workshop was attended by expectant parents, family members and health professionals.
According to maternity unit manager Caroline Boskovic, the workshop was aimed at educating mothers and raising awareness on important issues that promote healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood.

“These workshops are not only focusing on the baby but also on the mothers, fathers and their support system,” she said.
Dietitian Amanda van Huyssteen delivered an engaging and informative session, shedding light on the importance of a balanced lifestyle for mothers. She shared valuable insights on essential nutrition, providing guidance on healthy eating habits tailored to their unique needs.
The session also had a specialist, Sr Kantika Lategan, who focused on the first 1 000 days once the baby is here. She spoke about the importance of breastfeeding as a healthy way to nurture a baby after giving birth. Amanda also highlighted the myths surrounding breastfeeding and answered expectant mothers’ questions about their concerns.

Paramedic Sharlene Dixon helped the parents-to-be with information on how to deal with emergencies and do basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
“She also explained the importance of knowing emergency numbers, and they had an opportunity to practice on the dolls,” said Caroline.
“What is important for the mommies is to attend antenatal classes and do the necessary research on their pregnancies and, more importantly, to always consult with their doctors,” she concluded.
