Suspected vehicle explosion in Strubens Valley sets building ablaze

A suspected vehicle explosion sparked a fire at Lifestyle Corner. Emergency services swiftly contained the blaze. No serious injuries reported. Investigations are ongoing.

A fire broke out at the Lifestyle Corner Centre in Strubens Valley just after 15:00 this afternoon, August 7. The incident occurred at the corner of Lubbe Rouge Street and Nic Diederichs Road.

Emergency services, including the fire department, EMS, and private security companies, responded swiftly to the scene.

Thanks to their quick action, the blaze was contained and extinguished before it could spread further through the centre. Several individuals sustained minor injuries, mainly due to smoke inhalation, and were treated on site.

Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported at this stage.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not been confirmed, workers at the centre reported that it may have started in a vehicle inside a car repair workshop.

The Gauteng Provincial Joint Operations Centre has issued a public alert, urging residents to avoid the area while emergency teams complete their work.

The affected section of the centre has been cordoned off as a precaution. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
