JMPD recruits lead to temporary road closures

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has announced that Handicap Road towards Ruimsig Stadium will be closed daily between 06:00 and 16:00 until September 15 to accommodate physical fitness assessments for their new recruits.

The department cautioned that the closure period may be extended due to the high number of applicants.

The assessments form part of JMPD’s recruitment process, which requires candidates to complete a series of physical challenges to determine their fitness for service.

The closures are expected to disrupt the flow of traffic; therefore, residents and commuters who rely on Handicap Road are advised to allow for extra travel time and use alternative routes to get to their destinations while the assessments continue.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” said JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla.

Updates on the duration of the closures will be shared if the assessment period is extended.
