Shopping centre hosts crime prevention awareness day

This initiative was to highlight the importance of safety in the community.

Horizon Shopping Centre transformed into a hub of safety and solidarity as it hosted its highly anticipated crime prevention awareness day.

The event held was on September 12 in partnership with the police, CPF, JMPD and other security companies in the area.

The initiative drew a crowd from the community, all eager to learn more about crime prevention and community safety. Throughout the morning, visitors engaged actively with police officers, CPF representatives, and security experts, who shared valuable tips and resources on how to enhance safety in their neighbourhoods.

Unathi Tyali, the marketing manager of the shopping centre, said, “We believe that safety starts with awareness. By hosting this campaign, we created a platform where the community and law enforcement could unite to prevent crime and protect what matters most.

“We also want to highlight the importance of safety in the community and ensure that community members feel safe in the centre,” she said.

The day featured interactive demonstrations, safety workshops, and a question-and-answer session that fostered open dialogue between residents and law enforcement officials. Many attendees left equipped with new knowledge and a stronger sense of community partnership, reinforcing the collective effort to make Roodepoort a safer place for all.
