Local learner sets new maths world record
His performance turned heads at the competition, and his success is proof that age is no barrier to success.
Pinnacle College Ridge is celebrating a Grade Five maths prodigy for achieving top honours on the global stage.
Kairav Chetty was ranked number one in the world in this year’s World Maths Day competition, where he competed against more than 30 000 learners. He also placed first in South Africa and at his school.
According to the school’s head of marketing and admissions, Joanita Boshoff, Kairav delivered an outstanding performance, solving 1 245 questions in just 20 minutes with impressive speed and accuracy. His results also helped improve the school’s overall ranking.
“We are immensely proud of Kairav’s exceptional achievements and look forward to seeing his continued success,” Joanita said.

Kairav’s strong performance is not new. He has placed first in South Africa for three consecutive years, which is a rare achievement. Additionally, he also set a new Mathletics World Record by solving 143 questions in one minute, beating the previous record of 141. According to Mathletics’ website (mathletics.com), its platform is the world’s leading online maths program.
The school community celebrates Kairav as he continues to excel beyond the bar in the field of mathematics.
