Family day a huge success

SSOP's second family day exceeded all expectations, attracting more than 1 100 residents.

SSOP held their second community day at Laerskool Helderkruin on Saturday, May 2, and residents came out in droves to support them.

According to SSOP chairperson Leon Marinus, the event by far exceeded their expectations, with more than 1 100 people visiting.

“It was an incredible day for our community,” says Marinus.

“We really worked hard at making sure there was something for everyone in terms of activities and vendors, and the turnout speaks for itself.”

The main focus of the event was on building stronger community relationships and promoting safety awareness, with JMPD, Ipid, City of Johannesburg, various private security and emergency services, and the South African National Blood Service in attendance, hosting numerous demonstrations, assisting the community with queries, and running a blood drive.

Other attractions included a huge children’s play area, a classic car show, live music, and more than 100 market vendors, selling everything from delicious food and treats to clothing, arts and crafts, and much more.

“You could even get your flu shot or have your pet microchipped,” says Marinus.

“The event was busy from early morning right up to the end, with families coming in and out throughout the day,” he adds.
