The Chilly Trench Shellhole Members of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) have relocated to Floroma Old Age Home after their long-standing shellhole at 29 Dieperink Street was sold.

According to West Rand District Old Bill Brian Bennett, the decision to sell the property was influenced by the deteriorating state of the Roodepoort CBD, which made it no longer financially viable to maintain.

“The property had become too costly to keep. All tenants who were living there have been provided with alternative accommodation, and we will continue hosting our monthly meetings and events at Floroma,” Brian said.

On July 24, members successfully relocated several military vehicles from the property, including the Eland armoured car and a cannon, to the Dardanelles Shellhole at Florida Lake.

The iconic Matilda II Infantry Tank, which has long been displayed outside the shellhole, is set to be moved to the East Rand.

Despite the move, Brian assured members that the organisation’s activities and traditions will continue uninterrupted from their new home at Floroma.
