Honeydew CPF assists medical crew with air transport landing
Volunteers joined forces with local emergency services to safely secure a helicopter landing zone for a critical patient transfer.
A co-ordinated response by the Honeydew CPF volunteers and local emergency teams facilitated the landing of a Rocket HEMS helicopter on Sunday, August 30.
Michael Steyn, the Honeydew CPF public relations officer, said the team was activated after a patient needed transport by air to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital for specialised medical care, and they helped secure a landing zone for the helicopter.
He said CPF members worked alongside the Community Emergency Response Service to establish and secure a safe landing zone for the transfer.
“With many of our patrollers having completed Landing Zone Ambassador training, our teams are equipped to assist Rocket HEMS with landing zone safety and coordination whenever required,” Steyn said.
According to Steyn, Help24 EMS and Life EMS also assisted with road closures and patient transport to ensure a safe transfer. After the operation, the teams gathered for a group photograph before the Rocket HEMS crew returned to base.
Steyn passed his gratitude to everyone who played a role in making the landing a success.
