Principal wins prestigious award
Discovery Primary Full Service School principal wins second place provincially in Excellence in Special Needs School.
After 35 years of dedication to the mother of all professions, the principal of Discovery primary full-service school, Raymond Peters, has been awarded a prestigious Excellence in Special Needs Leadership second place award.
Peters accepted this award in the presence of Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, Matome Chiloane, as part of the 2024 National Teachers Awards.
“The themes for this year were empowering educators, strengthening resilience, and building sustainability in schools. That’s what we stand for as a school to continue empowering our educators, strengthening resilience, and building sustainability within our schools.”
Building on its legacy of excellence, the school community, school governing body, parents, and learners are beaming with pride after this remarkable achievement.
This award seeks to examine excellence in schools that fall under the category of special schools, whether the school has resources like speech therapists, school councillors and social workers, just to name a few.
Growing up in a family of educators, Peters says he always aspired to be a teacher, and he has served as principal of Discovery Primary for about 13 years.
He studied education and worked up the ranks from being a teacher, department head and now principal.
“I had good role models of educators. Hard work and dedication are the way to success, that’s my motto in life,” he says.
Peters says the awards are one of the best initiatives that recognise the amazing work that teachers do in schools.
