Matric Class of 2024 looks forward to the future

The Class of 2024 from Hoërskool Roodepoort, Westridge High and Princess High share their plans for the future.

The matric Class of 2024 has made history, with the Johannesburg West district emerging as the top-performing district in South Africa.

The district received an impressive pass rate of 97%, surpassing the national pass rate of 87,3%.

This outstanding result marks a significant milestone for the district, which has consistently demonstrated strong performance in previous years. In 2023, the district achieved a pass rate of 92.5%, setting the stage for its impressive showing in 2024.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube praised the Class of 2024, saying, “This is the highest pass rate in the history of our country.”

The matric results were announced on January 13 and Johannesburg West was followed by the Fezile Dabi education district in the Free State achieving a pass rate of 93.5% and the Umkhanyakude district in KZN securing a pass rate of 92.8%.

As the Class of 2024 embarks on a new journey, many matriculants are eager to enter the workforce, while others plan to pursue higher education and start their own businesses.

The Roodepoort Record visited Hoërskool Roodepoort, Westridge High and Princess High schools to celebrate this milestone with these achievers and to also find out their plans for the future.

“I’m very happy with my results; it’s a testament to hard work and determination. For this I’m looking forward to starting at my new job,” Tasmeeah le Roux said.

Shanique Gard said her goal for this year is to study further.

Ayabonga Zondo said she is planning on pursuing a career in accounting at the University of Johannesburg or Witwatersrand, while her friend Mulanga Phuravhathu is also planning to study further.

Sibusiso Ndlovu and Sandile Rambau are also planning to study and they mentioned that they are awaiting acceptance letters from universities.

“I’m happy to say that the Tshwane University of Technology has already offered me space for Computer Science. Computer Applications Technology was my favourite subject, and I’m looking forward to this thrilling career,” Naledi Monareng said.

Boikanyo Monare plans to get rich, and Thato Sipoyo is interested in copywriting and editing.

Shawn Malatji is planning on starting his own gadget business that will focus on all things technology, while Motheo Obuseng and Tumi Tlatla plan to study.
