Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen Brings Joy to Learners
The non-profit organisation provides back-to-school stationery packs to learners.

The Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen continued its heartfelt initiative of making a difference in the community by providing back-to-school stationery packs to more than 150 children in the area.
According to Yolindie Oberholzer, the owner of the non-profit organisation, they mainly provide basic stationery according to the learners’ respective grades.
“For those entering Grade One, we mainly provide clay, scissors, crayons, pencils, glue, colouring papers, etc. For those in higher grades, we focus on giving them hardcover and softcover books, pens and exam pads. It might not be everything they need, but it’s adequate to keep them going until we can provide them with everything,” she said.
Yolindie stated that the back-to-school drive has been a tradition for over 20 years and mentioned that they also assist the community with documentation, certification, shoes, bags and uniforms.
“We also assist with homework when school starts. It’s about giving these learners all the resources they need to access education. It’s also about teaching them life lessons – that no matter their background, they can always thrive,” she added.
