Bell rings to welcome Grade 1s

The bell-ringing tradition at Welties is not just a fun activity – it’s a way to instill a sense of belonging and excitement among the youngest members of the school.

The first day of school is a milestone for every child and parent to remember. For the new Grade One learners at Weltevreden Park Primary School (Welties), this special occasion was made even more memorable by the school’s beloved bell-ringing ceremony, a heartwarming tradition symbolising the start of their primary school journey.

On the morning of January 15, excited faces filled the school grounds as proud parents accompanied their little ones, dressed in pristine uniforms and oversized backpacks. The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the principal, James van Dyk, who assured the new learners that Welties would be a place where they would grow, learn and thrive.

The learners went through the Values Arch at the school as the principal rang the bell to welcome these little ones to the school. This, according to James, signifies that the learners are now a part of the school and the idea of this Values Arch is on the one side you have the school’s name and on the other side you have the fruit of the spirit.

“These are the values that we trying to instill in our children and if they can live by these values then their lives will be fine,” James explained.

The learners were then escorted to their classrooms, where they began their first lessons, setting the foundation for a successful school career.
