Painting hope at Spray-a-Thon
For the school, the Cansa Spray-a-Thon was more than just a fundraiser; it was a celebration of compassion, creativity, and the unwavering spirit of giving back.

Ruimsig Academy recently showed its commitment to giving back by participating in the annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Spray-a-Thon.
The event, held on campus on February 3, saw learners, teachers, and staff come together to raise funds for cancer research and support services through colourful and creative hair makeovers.
Armed with spray cans and big hearts, participants embraced the spirit of the day by swapping their usual hairstyles for bold and bright designs. From neon streaks to rainbow hues, the school’s dedication to the cause shone through every spray of colour.

The initiative raised a significant amount for Cansa, serving as a testament to the school’s spirit of kindness, generosity, and sense of community.
“We’re proud of our learners and staff for their enthusiasm and dedication,” said deputy principal Janine Quigley.
“This event showcased our school’s compassion and creativity. It’s incredible to see how a little colour and a lot of heart can make such a meaningful impact,” she expressed.
The event was more than just a fundraiser – it was a celebration of unity, hope, and resilience.
The campus buzzed with excitement as learners and teachers sported vibrant hairstyles, posed for selfies, and cheered each other on. Laughter and school spirit filled the air, making the Spray-a-Thon a memorable day for everyone involved. Every colourful streak sprayed symbolised support for those affected by cancer, with donations going towards funding vital cancer research and treatment.

The event not only raised awareness about the disease but also inspired the school community to continue making a difference. The school extended heartfelt thanks to all who participated and contributed to the success of the event.
“This day was a powerful reminder that even the smallest acts – like adding a splash of colour – can create ripples of hope and change,” Janine concluded.
