Roodenation drum majorettes shine bright at nationals

The team is inviting potential participants to join for the 2026 season.

Laerskool Roodebeeck’s drum majorette team, Roodenation, ended the 2025 season on a high note, securing an impressive 15 first places at the Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading and Majorette Sport South Africa National Championships.

The championships took place in Klerksdorp earlier in July, and the teams dominated the competition, winning top spots in various categories.

The team’s impressive first places included solo senior baton, Duo/ Trios senior baton, junior and senior non-prop, junior and senior pom, junior flag, senior mace, senior pom defile, senior traditional mace defile, and large drill.

Coach Sonja Nortman expressed her pride and satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying, “We are very pleased with our results, and I cannot begin to describe just how proud I am. Fifteen first places are just an incredible achievement.”

The team’s success doesn’t stop there. They will be sending 15 athletes to the Gauteng Awards Trials on August 30 to 31 and later to the SA Trials in October, with the potential to compete internationally.

Sonja added that the Federation will finalise plans for the next World Championship after meeting with the World Organisation committee in Hungary on August 24.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the team will kick-start their preparations with an open day at Laerskool Roodebeeck on August 15 to16.

“We are planning to perform even better at the national championships in 2026, which will be held in Cape Town. The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory,” she said.

Potential drummers are welcome to attend and showcase their skills between 14:00 to 16:00 on Friday, August 15 and 09:00 to 11:00 on August 16.
