Lantern School hosts successful toiletry drive
This initiative aims to support various organisations in the community.
The Welfare committee at Lantern School recently organised a successful toiletry drive, collecting an impressive 1 421 items.
The toiletries were counted on August 15, and they will be shared with various non-profit organisations, including the school’s own feeding scheme, Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary, the Luipaardsvlei Old Age Home, and Môreglans Tehuis.
According to Joanne Rassouw, the co-ordinator of the drive, the welfare committee’s goal is to extend its support beyond the school walls, catering to the needs of learners, their families, and various organisations in the surrounding community. She added that beyond the toiletry drive, the committee also organises other heartwarming events, such as Easter egg hunts and canned food drives.

“The drive was a success, and a standout contributor was Jayden-Lee Evans, a Grade Four learner who brought an astonishing 195 items.
“These initiatives are crucial in shaping the values of our learners.
“We’re teaching them the importance of kindness, compassion, and community involvement. By participating in these activities, they’re learning that they’re part of something bigger than themselves and that supporting one another is key,” said Joanne.
To add an extra layer of excitement, the committee added a raffle where each item donated was entered into a draw for amazing prizes, including a Bluetooth speaker, giving learners a thrilling incentive to get involved.
