School Fun Day promotes healthy eating

They made green salad, roosterkoek, and stir-fried meat from scratch.

The school grounds at Dios Los Ninos were filled with excitement and laughter as the school hosted a Fun Day. The learners were challenged to prepare a healthy meal without using electricity.

Instead of relying on electricity and blenders, the learners rolled up their sleeves and used traditional methods to prepare the ingredients needed for the meals they were preparing. They made green salad, roosterkoek, and stir-fried meat from scratch.

“The learners had to plan everything on their own. They were only allowed to use gas or fire. Up until Grade Six, learners needed to be under the supervision of their parents if they were planning to use heat. This was also an excellent opportunity for parents to join in and share a wonderful day with their children,” principal Leoni explained.

Leoni said the learners thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“They absolutely amazed us. We saw a side of them that we never saw during class time. It was also amazing to see all the parents who took part in this day,” she said.
