Discovery Primary School receives top honours at National Teaching Awards
The school participated in the 11th annual National Education Excellence Awards.
Discovery Primary School earned third place in this year’s National Education Excellence Awards, solidifying its position as one of the top full-service schools in the country.
The 11th annual awards took place on August 29 at the Sandton Convention Centre in the presence of Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube, Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule and school representatives.
Discovery principal Raymond Peters beamed with pride, stating it wouldn’t be possible without the school’s stakeholders, which include the school governing body, parents, teachers and learners.
As a full-service school, Discovery prioritises not only academic excellence and extramural activities but also the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of its learners. The school’s holistic approach enables it to identify and address challenges, ensuring a seamless reintegration of its learners into the learning environment.
“Our journey as a full-service school began in 2010, and we accommodate mid-intellectual disabilities. We have such committed teachers and staff and very supportive parents,” Raymond said, adding that the school has on-site therapists, counsellors and social workers.
He reiterated his commitment to his school and the community it serves by stressing, “We have to do justice to our responsibility as educators and promote a culture of learning.”
He shared his secret to success, which is his personal mantra.
“Hard work and determination are the watchwords of success.”
