Math teachers honoured for excellence
The drive for learner success, teamwork, and dedication is what earned the team the top positions and global recognition.
Crawford International Ruimsig is celebrating a big achievement after four of its mathematics teachers were honoured at the ADvTECH ADvLEARN Celebration of Excellence Awards on November 19.
Annette Rheeder, Laurentia van Muylwyk, Inge Venter and Jordan Seokame were recognised for the excellent way they use digital learning in their classrooms.
Annette, who has been teaching for 42 years, placed in the top 20. She said it feels like a real honour to be recognised.
“I teach Grade Eight to 11 maths, and this achievement shows me that I’m doing the right things. I’m grateful that ADvTECH appreciates our work, and the event was wonderful,” she said.
Two teachers achieved a great milestone by placing fourth and eighth overall on the continent. Laurentia, who earned the fourth-place spot, explained how they use the platform to help learners understand their work better.
“We use the online homework to support what we teach in class. If a learner gets something wrong, the platform shows them their mistake and helps them fix it. They can keep trying until they get 100%, and we encourage them to do that. Because of these methods, our learners have performed above international standards in MAP tests. This was a real team effort.”
Jordan, who placed eighth overall, and Inge shared how the digital tools have made maths more fun and interactive. They said learners get excited to use the iPads and enjoy the quizzes and tasks. The platform gives quick feedback, and it has changed the way they teach in a positive way.
“Having two teachers in the top 10 and all four ranked among the best ADvTECH teachers across Africa is a huge achievement. It shows the hard work, teamwork, and dedication of the Maths department, and how digital learning is helping our learners grow and succeed,” said the school’s client experience officer, Megan Birch.
