Laerskool Die Ruiter gears up for the 2026 academic year

Teachers and general assistants at the school have already started making preparations.

Laerskool Die Ruiter is ready to welcome learners for the 2026 academic year.

The learners are expected to return on Wednesday, January 14, and the school is already buzzing with activity to ensure a smooth start.

As of Thursday, January 8, a few teachers have already returned from the festive season, rolled up their sleeves, got classrooms spotless and are preparing for the arrival of the learners.

Meanwhile, the school’s general assistants were also hard at work tending to the gardens, cutting the grass, and arranging classes to create a welcoming environment.

During the Roodepoort Record’s visit, Grade R teacher Cindy Hattingh expressed that she cannot wait to meet her new bundles of joy. She shared that she has already packed stationery and files, covered books, and created name tags for her learners.

“We are looking forward to the start of the new academic year. We have lots of activities already planned, including pre-school athletics day, water fun day, colour run, the ‘grow a plant’ project, and the Ruiter Festival,” Cindy said.

She also encouraged student teachers or new teachers who will be starting at new schools to stay calm, try their best, and make learning fun for their learners.

“We are a family, and we love every child that walks into our door,” she added.

Grade RR teacher Vhutini Sithole said she will be implementing new learning strategies with her learners.

“I’m planning to introduce learning through playing, introduce new games or entertainment and reward my learners when they’ve done well,” she said.

Additionally, the school will also have an open day on January 13, where they will be welcoming Grade RR, Grade R and Grade Ones.
