Crawford host donation drive for flood victims in Mpumalanga
The Crawford community comes together to help Mpumalanga flood victims.
Crawford International Ruimsig campus, in collaboration with their learners, parents, and staff, hosted a donation drive in support of the flood victims in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
According to Grade One teacher Shannon Staniforth, the school launched a call for donations through their parent communication platform, as well as social media channels. Within just two days, the school’s network rallied together to collect a substantial number of essential items for those affected by the disaster.
The donations, which included tinned foods, toiletries, bottled water, and other critical supplies, were sent to the Jacaranda FM Flood Relief collection in Midrand, aimed at alleviating the suffering of the flood-affected communities in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
“Our school community’s response was overwhelming, and we are truly grateful for the generosity shown by our families,” said a spokesperson for Crawford School. In just a short time, we were able to gather essential items that will go a long way in supporting the affected families. This is a shining example of how collective action can make a real difference,” Shannon added.

The school believes the initiative was not only an act of service but also a powerful learning experience for the school’s students. Rooted in the values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, the drive emphasised the importance of compassion, community involvement, and the role each individual can play in making a positive impact on the world.
The donation drive was further strengthened through a friendly challenge from another local school. Together, the schools pooled their donations and transported them to Jacaranda’s headquarters, from where the items were distributed to the affected areas.
“It was heartening to see our learners not only engage in a meaningful act of service but also collaborate with others to create a larger impact,” she said.
“This collaboration showcased the power of unity and teamwork, teaching our students the value of working together to help those in need.”
