Discovery Primary learner shines at District Economics Olympiad

She placed fifth in the district competition and set her sights on entrepreneurship and business studies.

Discovery Primary Full Service School learner Zara Blignaut recently represented her school at the District Economics Management Science (EMS) Olympiad.

Held at Princess Primary School on August 17, Zara performed impressively, placing fifth overall in the district after scoring 23 out of 25.

However, despite her strong performance, her time prevented her from progressing to the next round.

“I thought it was quite an easy test. It mainly focused on entrepreneurship, finances, assets, budgets and liabilities. To prepare for the test, I used past papers and work from Terms 1 and 2,” she said.

Zara believes she could have finished among the top two learners had she completed the test faster.

“I’m very proud of myself because I didn’t think I was going to make it this far,” she said.

The experience has also influenced Zara’s future academic interests, with the young learner now considering pursuing the Accounting, Business and Economics stream in high school.

“I’m now interested in entrepreneurship and business. I like these subjects because they are a combination of Maths and English, which are both my favourite subjects,” she said.

Her EMS teacher Kimm Paul expressed her pride in Zara’s achievement, saying she outdid herself and represented the school exceptionally well.
